I have always been interested in two things – how the natural world works and B-grade science fiction. My lifelong fascination with them began when, as a six-year-old, I visited the Singapore Science Center after watching a B-grade silent film adaptation of Jules Verne’s Journey to the Center of the Earth. The first “original” question I remember asking is – why do we hear explosions in films about outer space when space is a vacuum? After many detours later in life, including a post-graduate degree in science and research work as a rain forest conservationist, I became a teacher with the intention of helping young people de-mystify science and appreciate nature.
